I visited a blog at the suggestion of a friend this morning to read a post titled “You Are NOT the Issue…So Don’t Sabotage Yourself” and was very pleased to find wisdom there.  As I posted my comment, I realized that my comment was indeed a post in its own right, so I wanted to share it with you.

Nate’s post discussed how many new marketers fail because they are inwardly focused and think it is all about them or their product or opportunity.  Nate, from his own experience and wise understanding, cautions them to stop talking about themselves, and focus on others.

A comment was left by Karen asking, “What is my message then?”  After commenting to the author, Nate, I felt compelled to address Karen’s question, and thought the answer valuable enough to also share it with you.

You have NO message until you get to know your prospect. Based on THEIR needs and situation, the appropriate response (as well as completely natural and OBVIOUS to you) will be an outwardly focused, laser targeted, response to THEIR needs or desires. Sometimes you will not have what they need or desire, and you can refer them to someone who does. That is the HEART and BEAUTY of networking.   All that you give will be returned to you many times over because you have shown INTEGRITY!

Meet, greet, and get to know others – both in and out of your field.  Look at their products and opportunities that are, and are not of interest.  Value the relationships you make in doing this.  The face of marketing has changed forever.

  1. That is excellent advice, Lynn! Trying to fit people into a ‘mold’ doesn’t work, but meeting their needs, or sending them to someone who can, does show incredible integrity, especially in this day and age.
    Great Post!
