margin-bottom: 4px;\" title=\"And the light shines in the darkness\" alt=\"light\" src=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/candle.jpg\" width=\"445\" height=\"296\" \/><\/a><\/h1>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">And the light shines also in my darkness.<\/h1>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recently, I again read John 1:1-5, verses that I have read countless times before, but this time something was different.\u00a0 A single phrase stood out, calling me to take a closer look.<\/h4>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">John 1:1-5 (NKJV)<br \/>\n1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.\u00a0 2 He was in the beginning\u00a0 with\u00a0 God.\u00a0 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.\u00a0 4 In Him was life, and the life was the <b>light<\/b> of men.\u00a0 5 And the <i>light<\/i> shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Strange that phrase had never stood out before&#8230; &#8220;and the darkness did not comprehend it&#8221; lends a trait to darkness I had not previously considered.\u00a0 Could darkness be capable of intelligence or for that matter thought?\u00a0 Another curiosity was the change in tense.\u00a0 The <u>light<\/u> shines in present tense but the darkness responds in past tense.\u00a0 I hoped to solve this unusual dilema by comparing several translations&#8230; it was like having an itch I could not scratch and I had to get to the bottom of it.<span id=\"more-3037\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">John 1:5 (NLT)<br \/>\n5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.<\/h4>\n<h4>John 1:5 (KJV)<br \/>\n5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.<\/h4>\n<h4>John 1:5 (MSG)<br \/>\n5 The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn&#8217;t put it out.<\/h4>\n<h4>John 1:5 (GW)<br \/>\n5 The light shines in the dark, and the dark has never extinguished it.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Two votes for past tense could not comprehend, one vote for past tense could not extinguish, and two votes for past, present and future inability to extinquish.\u00a0 The word &#8216;extinguish&#8217; added the mental picture of putting out a fire, as in overcoming or conquering something, and that kind of <a title=\"Small Victories Matter\" href=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/2011\/03\/small-victories-matter\/\">victory<\/a> cannot be achieved without first understanding that which we seek to conquer.\u00a0 So the darkness then, now, and forever, must struggle with the intrusion of light, yet will never prevail against it.\u00a0 Hmmmm&#8230; so far so good.<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was about that time when my friend, Maikel, reminded me of something.\u00a0 These verses parallel the creation story in Genesis.\u00a0 Johns writings take us back to creation to teach us that Jesus was present &#8220;In the beginning&#8230;&#8221;, when God separated the light and the darkness.\u00a0 Maikel&#8217;s point was that Jesus and His church are the continuation of this action of separating light from darkness.<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a rel=\"http:\/\/fineartamerica.com\/featured\/a-light-in-the-midst-of-darkness-angelica-cotos-.html noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/fineartamerica.com\/featured\/a-light-in-the-midst-of-darkness-angelica-cotos-.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3043 alignnone\" style=\"margin: 4px 8px;\" title=\"A Light in the Midst of Darkness by Angelica Cotos\" alt=\"light\" src=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/A-Light-in-the-Midst-of-Darkness-by-Angelica-Cotos.jpg\" width=\"443\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">But wait&#8230; If they are separated,<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">does the light still shine in the darkness?<\/h2>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">This was not the rabbit hole I had imagined myself jumping into <a title=\"An Unexpected Journey to Greatness\" href=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/2010\/06\/an-unexpected-journey-to-greatness\/\">when I began this journey<\/a>, but God&#8217;s path for me is rarely anything like what I am expecting.\u00a0 With that in mind, it was time to revisit John 1 verses 1-5 with a fresh perspective.\u00a0 This time I went to my <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/ww7.aitsafe.com\/go.htm?go=www.aent.org&amp;afid=16435&amp;tm=7&amp;im=2\" target=\"_blank\">AENT<\/a> (Aramaic to English New Testament translation), as I often do when I feel I am getting closer but can&#8217;t quite reach it, hoping to acquire a deeper understanding of the intimacy between God and Jesus in the act of creation.<\/h4>\n<blockquote>\n<h4>Yochanan 1:1-5 AENT<br \/>\n1 In the beginning was the Miltha. And that Miltha was with Elohim.\u00a0\u00a0 And Elohim was that Miltha.<br \/>\n2 This was with Elohim in the beginning.<br \/>\n3 Everything existed through His hands, and without Him, not even one thing existed of the things which have existed.<br \/>\n4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.<br \/>\n5 And that light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4>The word &#8216;overtake&#8217; definitely fits in with the idea of overcoming, but wait&#8230; there is so much more&#8230;.<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8216;Miltha&#8217; is one of those words with multiple meanings.\u00a0 It can mean word, manifestation, instance, or substance.\u00a0 Elohim is God the Creator and Judge.\u00a0 So in the beginning, when God, in the act of creation spoke the words &#8220;Let there be&#8230;&#8221; the manifestation of His substance, Miltha, was with Him.\u00a0 Jesus is Miltha, the Ruach haKodesh or Spirit of God manifested in substance, the Son of God and man.\u00a0 WOW!\u00a0 In verse three we can sense the imagery of the word becoming a creative force in the\u00a0 literal hands of the Miltha, like a sculptor working under the orders of a king.<\/h4>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">It fills in the unfathomable gap between &#8220;God said &#8216;Let there be light'&#8221; and &#8220;and there was light&#8221; with Jesus!<\/h3>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/overcoming-darkness.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3045 aligncenter\" style=\"margin-top: 4px; margin-bottom: 4px;\" title=\"and the light shines in the darkness\" alt=\"light\" src=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/overcoming-darkness.jpg\" width=\"385\" height=\"308\" \/><\/a><\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks again to Maikel, for pointing out the crucial fact that God only separated light and darkness. He did not destroy the darkness. The darkness is a reality we must contend with.\u00a0 Jesus has come to bring light into the darkness.\u00a0 He is the true light!\u00a0 That, for us, is a <a title=\"He Has Risen!
