{"id":2760,"date":"2012-05-07T21:49:37","date_gmt":"2012-05-08T01:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/?p=2760"},"modified":"2019-11-22T19:24:14","modified_gmt":"2019-11-23T00:24:14","slug":"the-first-blood-sacrifice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/2012\/05\/the-first-blood-sacrifice\/","title":{"rendered":"The First Blood Sacrifice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--rpuStart--><!--rpuStart--><!--rpuStart--><!--rpuStart--><\/p>\n<h1>Have you ever wondered where the idea of blood sacrifice for atonement came from?<\/h1>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">I must admit that was one thing I could never really wrap my mind around, but it did not concern me enough to go looking for an answer.\u00a0\u00a0 I understood the concept and how the sacrificial system of the old testament was replaced when God made the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, His Son, to atone for our sin, but none of that explained how the sacrifice of animals was introduced.<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">A few days ago I had one of those AHA! moments, when something I had read in my bible many times before, took on the status of &#8220;golden nugget&#8221; as a deeper meaning surfaced.\u00a0\u00a0 I am always amazed as my study of scripture continues to reveal deeper and deeper layers of understanding.\u00a0 With this new &#8220;golden nugget&#8221; came a revelation that Jesus was NOT the first <b>blood sacrifice<\/b> God made on behalf of mankind.<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/paschal-lamb.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2779 alignright\" style=\"margin: 4px 8px;\" title=\"Blood of the Paschal Lamb\" src=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/paschal-lamb.jpg\" alt=\"Blood Sacrafice\" width=\"166\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">When we discuss the subject of <i>blood sacrifice<\/i> we tend to focus on the sacrifices the children of Israel made to God. The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">blood sacrifice<\/span> of Issac God demanded to test the faith of Abraham, the ram God provided as the substitution, the paschal lambs whose blood sacrifice protected the Hebrew slaves as the angel of death took the firstborn of Egypt, and the many blood sacrifices made upon the altar of the original Temple of Solomon and the second Temple that was destroyed in 70 AD.<\/h4>\n<h2>To find the first mention blood sacrifice, we must go all the way back to Genesis.<span id=\"more-2760\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<h4><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/adam-and-eve.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2783\" style=\"margin: 4px 8px;\" title=\"Cast out of the Garden\" src=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/adam-and-eve.jpg\" alt=\"Blood Sacaifice\" width=\"195\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Genesis 3:21 (NKJV) <\/strong><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/sup>Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.&#8221;<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Genesis 3:21 (KJV) <\/strong><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8221; <\/span><\/sup>Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.&#8221;<\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Genesis 3:21 (NLT) <\/strong><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/sup>And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.&#8221;<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">The scripture does not jump right out and call it a blood sacrifice, but up until this point in Genesis, no blood had been shed.\u00a0 The animals lived in harmony, Adam and Eve were provided for without meat and had no need of clothing, and God alone provided for and met the needs of every living creature.\u00a0 It was not until they disobeyed that they realized they were naked.<\/h4>\n<blockquote>\n<h4><strong>Genesis 3:7-11 (NKJV) <\/strong><sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they <em>were<\/em> naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.\u00a0And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, &#8220;Where <em>are<\/em> you?&#8221;So he said, &#8220;I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.&#8221;<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 <\/span><\/sup>And He said, &#8220;Who told you that you <em>were<\/em> naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?&#8221;&#8221;<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the harsh world outside the garden, Adam and Eve would need clothing to protect them from the elements and the environment.\u00a0 Fig leaves were not going to cut it, so God, in His infinite mercy, made a blood sacrifice and covered them in clothing made of animal skins.\u00a0 He literally covered their sin, their nakedness and shame, with a blood sacrifice.\u00a0 It was a supreme act of love.\u00a0 God took the life of living beings that He created and loved, to meet the needs of man whom He loved more.<\/h4>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">And so the first blood sacrifice was made on behalf of Adam and Eve as they were cast out from the Garden. Was God disappointed?\u00a0 You bet He was!\u00a0 Was He going to punish them?\u00a0 BIG TIME!\u00a0 Did he leave them or forsake them?\u00a0 Did He stop loving them?\u00a0 Not for a single moment!<\/h3>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/sacrificial-lamb.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2780\" style=\"margin: 4px 8px;\" title=\"sacrificial lamb\" src=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/sacrificial-lamb.jpg\" alt=\"Blood Sacrifice\" width=\"300\" height=\"179\" \/><\/a>The blood sacrifices that God made on our behalf make a statement about the unconditional and unchanging love God has for us.\u00a0 The animal sacrifices the people made to God should have been a reminder of His love, even an act of returning His love,\u00a0 but sadly it became for most a requirement to meet, born of religious doctrine, peer pressure, and fear.\u00a0 The blood sacrifice carried no weight when it was not brought to God out of love.<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">And so God&#8217;s chosen people began their <a title=\"Out of Egypt\" href=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/2011\/08\/out-of-egypt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">epic journey through history<\/a>.\u00a0 If they would not make the correct choices to be an example to the rest of the world of how blessed they were living under God&#8217;s love and protection, by loving Him with all their hearts, their minds and their strength, and loving their neighbors as they loved themselves, then God would accomplish His purpose for them in another way.<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">They would be raised up time and again, and time and again they would bow down to the idols of the world around them.\u00a0 They would be taken captive, be persecuted and fall victim to hideous atrocities, they would be murdered in great numbers, they would be scattered to all ends of the earth, but the promise that always loomed large was the promise they would be restored to the land given to their forefathers.\u00a0 This was for their growth, and also for their pruning.\u00a0 When redemption finally came, most would not recognize it.\u00a0 God would send His Son, first to His chosen people, and then to all mankind to teach them the ways of the Living God.<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/nail-pierced-hand.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2778\" style=\"margin: 4px 8px;\" title=\"nail pierced hand\" src=\"https:\/\/onemonthofwisdom.com\/wisdomblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/nail-pierced-hand.jpg\" alt=\"Blood Sacrifice\" width=\"160\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, He would make another blood sacrifice that would extend the blessings promised to His chosen, to all people who called upon Him in truth, and He would wait patiently for a remnant of the children of Israel to understand the meaning of the blood sacrifice and return to Him forever.<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4>Blessings &amp; Adventure,<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h4>Lynn &#8220;lynnibug&#8221; Rios<\/h4>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p><!--rpuEnd--><!--rpuEnd--><!--rpuEnd--><!--rpuEnd--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>And so God&#8217;s chosen people began their epic journey through history.
