Putting Faith Into Action With The Spoken Word… Or Not

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

One of the first lessons the scriptures teach us is the power of the spoken word.

The Spoken Word

Genesis 1:1-5 (NKJV)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

The manifestation of creation sprang forth from the spoken word of God.

Much has been written in the secular world about the power of positive affirmation.  Combining vision boards, mind retraining exercises and spoken words of affirmation are accepted as “the secret” or “law of attraction” to manifest the things you want into your life.  There is really nothing secret about it.  It is all biblical truth that has been served up without mention of the author, God.

We put our faith into action with the spoken word.  Just as God created heaven and earth by speaking it, we create our future with the spoken word, both in conversation and in prayer.

Mark 11:24 (NKJV)
24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

The underlying message that is often missed is that there is inherent power in the spoken word, and that much of the negative experience we encounter, we have invited with our spoken words.  The spoken word is also a tool used by the enemy to undermine the abundance that could be ours.  When we speak about our past hurts we relive them,  yet some will speak them into existence over and over again.  When we do this, our spoken words hold us back and steal the victory God has promised from our grasp.   Every time they are spoken, more gloom and doom will pour into our lives. Point of View, Attitude, and the Value of Focus

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

How high can you climb?Just the other night, in a committee meeting, a member asked the committee chair to please stop using the words dire and dismal in relation to the committee’s financial challenges. Her point was that the use of those words, especially with the frequency they were being used, gave power to the problem rather than the solution. When we focus on problems, they persist, but when we focus on solutions we overcome.

No matter what kind of challenges we face in our lives overcoming them has everything to do with the manner in which we approach them. Our point of view and attitude are closely related, and are keys to our success. If we have a positive attitude and expect success, then we will approach obstacles from the point of view that there are opportunities to be discovered. Without a clear expectation of success, we are just stuck with the way things are, or worse. (more…)

The Word of God – Secularized and Sold as the Law of Attraction

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

It seems the hottest topic in success coaching circles these days is the law of attraction.  It is being packaged and sold in a myriad of ways, in variations that run the gamut from scientific to new age.  It is being treated like some new revelation, but the concept all boils down to what Jesus taught us about faith, and the mechanics of putting our faith into action.

I just hate it when men take credit for what God is doing.  That is not to say that the actions of man are irrelevant, they are quite relevant, but all Glory rightly belongs to God!  “The secret” was revealed in ancient times, and is no secret for those who have gone to the Source, the Word of God, to find it.  What troubles me most is that the word of God is a free gift, and not meant to be sold for a profit.  There is no shortcut or substitute for personal study that allows the Supreme Creator to impart to you wisdom and understanding of His universal laws. In short, “the secret” is simply faith in action.
