The Truth About Taking Risks

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

One thing common to people who achieve a high level of success is their willingness to take risks. One of my early mentors always posed these two questions when I was considering a risky move. “What is the worst thing that could happen?” and “If that worst thing did happen, what would the damage be?”

The point is that in most cases, if the risk taken did not result in success, it would have left me in no worse circumstances than if I had not taken the risk. Cherokee Wisdom – Two Wolves

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Thanks to Debbie who posted this on facebook today…  I just had to share it.

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.  He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all…

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Nate’s post discussed how many new marketers fail because they are inwardly focused and think it is all about them or their product or opportunity.  Nate, from his own experience and wise understanding, cautions them to stop talking about themselves, and focus on others.

A comment was left by Karen asking, “What is my message then?”  After commenting to the author, Nate, I felt compelled to address Karen’s question, and thought the answer valuable enough to also share it with you. (more…)
